What is a swingblade sawmill?

A swingblade sawmill is a circular sawmill mounted to allow the blade to operate in a horizontal or vertical setting.  This allows for breaking down a log one board or timber at a time without having to turn the log or rehandle pieces to trim their edges.

The advantage of a swing blade mill include amount of yield per log is also increased. You can cut a log with precision, it is like dismantling the log instead of slicing it. By edging the boards as you cut them you can maximize your output and increase production, You can also cut larger logs than most other portable mills can handle.

The length log that can be processed by a swingmill is only limited in the number of feet of track  the mill runs on - here a 32 foot poplar log is being loaded to cut into 3x8s to use to construct a stacking table.

 

Logs up to 3ft in diameter can be sawn on swingmill easier tan on a production or band mill..
